Water and sewer

Cobb County Water System needs 48 hours’ notice for any water service request. New customers submit a Move-In Request online; existing customers moving within the county use the Request Move link in the customer portal. Online requests can take five to seven business days. If you need water sooner, call 770-419-6200 between 8 a.m. and noon or 12:30 and 5 p.m. on weekdays. The office is at 660 South Cobb Drive, Marietta.

Electricity

East Cobb is split between two electric utilities, and your address decides which you get.

Outage numbers and maps for both are in our power outages guide.

Natural gas

Georgia’s gas market is deregulated. Atlanta Gas Light owns and maintains the pipes and says on its site that consumers buy gas from marketers while it delivers it. To start service, choose a marketer from the Georgia Public Service Commission’s list of certified marketers; the commission also publishes a marketer scorecard and price index. Leaks, odors and emergencies go to Atlanta Gas Light at 877-427-4321.

Internet

East Cobb’s four ZIP codes, 30062, 30066, 30067 and 30068, are Marietta mailing addresses. Two providers publish Marietta service pages with sign-up links: AT&T Internet in Marietta and Xfinity in Marietta. Service varies by street, so check your exact address with each provider. The FCC’s National Broadband Map lists the providers that report service at an address.

Driver’s license, tags and emissions

From the Cobb County Tax Commissioner’s new resident page and the Department of Driver Services:

  • License: new Georgia residents must apply for a Georgia driver’s license within 30 days, DDS says. Bring your old license, proof of address, primary ID, proof of Social Security number and documents for any name changes.
  • Title and registration: within 30 days of moving. You will need your Georgia license, Georgia insurance, an emissions inspection if required, your out-of-state title or a T-17 lienholder statement, and funds for the 3% Title Ad Valorem Tax.
  • Emissions: Cobb requires a yearly emissions test for gasoline vehicles 3 to 24 years old under 8,500 pounds.
  • Moving within Georgia: update your license address, then your registration, which keeps the same plate with a new county decal.

The tax commissioner’s East Office, in the East Cobb Government Center at 4400 Lower Roswell Road, is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and has a self-service tag kiosk.

Homestead exemption

Apply for Cobb’s homestead exemption once you own and live in the home on Jan. 1. If you had an exemption in another county or state, bring a letter showing it was removed. Details, deadlines and the senior school tax exemption are in our property tax guide.

Pets

Cobb County Animal Services’ ordinances page covers leash laws, noise complaints and cruelty rules. Animal Services: 770-499-4136.
