  • Cobb County schools’ last day is Wednesday, May 19, 2027, so Mother’s Day falls in the last full weeks of school.

Gem, mineral and fossil show

The Georgia Mineral Society’s Mother’s Day Weekend Gem, Mineral, Jewelry and Fossil Show is held every year. The 57th show, at the Cobb County Civic Center, 548 S. Marietta Parkway, ran Friday, May 8, to Sunday, May 10, 2026: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, with free admission and parking, dealers, workshops and demonstrations, door prizes and silent auctions (2026 county listing). The society says the 58th annual show is in May 2027 (Georgia Mineral Society).

Mother’s Day in nature

The Chattahoochee Nature Center, 9135 Willeo Road in Roswell, about six miles north, gave moms free admission on Mother’s Day 2026, with picnics, programs, the Wildlife Walk and the River Boardwalk Trail, plus a Family Canoe Day on Beaver Pond and river canoe trips (nature center’s Mother’s Day page). Check that page in April for 2027.

Closer to home, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s Cochran Shoals unit has a wide gravel trail along the river, and East Cobb Park and Hyde Farm Park are free. See our walking and biking trails guide and free things to do.

  • Taste of East Cobb moves to April in 2027: Saturday, April 17, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the north parking lot of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, with local restaurants and vendors (Taste of East Cobb).
