How a new business gets licensed

Every business operating in unincorporated Cobb, including home-based businesses and 1099 contractors, needs a Cobb County occupation tax certificate, the county’s business license, for each location. According to the county’s business license page:

  1. Confirm the address is in unincorporated Cobb, not a city.
  2. Fill out the application packet for your business type, with every document signed by the same person.
  3. Email it to businesslicense@cobbcounty.gov to get the fee amount.
  4. Include a secure ID such as a driver’s license or passport, and your Georgia Secretary of State certificate if you are a corporation or LLC.

A business in a commercial space also needs a certificate of occupancy, which shows the space meets building and fire codes. The license is not a certificate of occupancy.

How we build this list

Each month we check landlord directories, Cobb County zoning agendas, ribbon cuttings and the businesses’ own announcements, and list only what we can confirm from the business, its landlord or a public record. A listing here is not an endorsement or an advertisement.
