The last swim of summer

Cobb County’s outdoor pools close for the year after Labor Day. In 2026 the season ran May 23 to Sept. 7, and Sewell Park Pool, 2055 Lower Roswell Road behind the Sewell Mill Library, opened from 1 to 5 p.m. on Labor Day before closing for the season on Sept. 8 (Sewell Park Pool). Daily admission for Cobb residents was $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for ages 3 to 17 and $3 for seniors 55 and older. The indoor Mountain View Aquatic Center, 3131 Hong Way, is open year-round (county aquatics). More in our summer camps and pools guide.

Trash pickup changes

East Cobb homes use private haulers, not a county service, so your hauler decides whether Labor Day pickup moves. Check its website or invoice; numbers for the main haulers are in our trash and recycling guide. The county transfer station at 1897 County Services Parkway is closed on county holidays (Cobb waste disposal).

Ways to spend the long weekend

  • On the river. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s Johnson Ferry North, Cochran Shoals and Sope Creek units have trails along the water; see walking and biking trails.
  • Free outings. Parks, concerts and library programs that cost nothing are in free things to do.
  • High school football. Labor Day weekend falls early in the season; schedules are on our Friday night football page.
