A short history
The center opened as The Avenue of East Cobb on Aug. 12, 1999, a $43 million, 225,000-square-foot open-air center on a 30-acre site between Roswell and Marietta that was once a golf driving range and a 17-home subdivision. The center’s history calls it one of the nation’s first upscale, pedestrian-oriented open-air retail centers, built by Cousins Properties. PGIM Real Estate bought it in 2006. North American Properties joined as partner in 2021, renamed it Avenue East Cobb, and after Cobb County commissioners approved its plans in 2022, replaced part of the central building with The Plaza, unveiled in September 2023 (Avenue East Cobb history).
