Walton High School is a Cobb County School District high school for ninth through 12th grade on Bill Murdock Road, the same road as Dodgen Middle School. It is the only East Cobb school on the district’s charter school directory: a conversion charter since July 1, 1998, according to its charter renewal (PDF), with goals set through June 2028 and a school-level board, the Walton Governance Board. Admission works like any zoned school: the renewal says Walton “is a neighborhood school that serves the local attendance zone created by the Cobb County School District” and “does not participate in a lottery system.” The school’s site calls it “a public, four-year, comprehensive high school with a strong college-preparatory program.” Its mailing address says Marietta, but the address sits outside any city’s limits, in unincorporated Cobb County, according to the Census Bureau’s geocoder.

Attendance zone

Zones are set by the district and do not follow ZIP codes. Check any address with the district’s school and bus locator, or open the district’s Walton zone map (PDF) from its attendance zones page. The district says its posted maps “do not preclude any future changes” and asks families not to make a home purchase based on them alone.

The district’s feeder pattern chart, updated June 30, 2024, lists these middle school zones feeding Walton High: Dickerson Middle and Dodgen Middle (66% of its zone). Elementary schools whose students can end up at Walton High, from the same chart and the schools’ own feeder pages: East Side Elementary, Kincaid Elementary, Mount Bethel Elementary, Murdock Elementary, Sope Creek Elementary and Timber Ridge Elementary.

We found no rezoning approved by the Board of Education that changes the Walton zone for 2026-27; the district’s posted zone maps are labeled 2022-23 for high schools and 2023-24 for middle and elementary schools.
