East Cobb’s roads are run by two agencies. Cobb County’s Department of Transportation looks after county roads such as Johnson Ferry, Lower Roswell, Sandy Plains, Shallowford and Trickum. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) runs the interstates and state routes and posts its lane closures on Georgia 511.

Who to call

Closed now: Trickum Road

Trickum Road is closed to through traffic between Jamerson Road and Shallowford Road through Tuesday, Oct. 20, according to Cobb County. The closure began Sept. 21 so crews can replace a damaged cross drain, catch basin lids and the shoulder, build a new outlet headwall and restore the road. The exact closure point is between the north and south ends of Easy Circle, near 3877 to 3883 Trickum Road. Use Shallowford Road and Jamerson Road around it.

Coming next: Johnson Ferry Road at Shallowford Road

The Board of Commissioners’ Sept. 22 agenda carried two items for the Johnson Ferry Road at Shallowford Road intersection (county project B2437, state project 0020001): an agreement with GDOT and a design-build contract with CMES Inc. of up to $2,317,038, the lowest of three proposals. According to the Sept. 22 agenda packet:

  • Westbound Shallowford Road will get two through lanes and two left-turn lanes.
  • Eastbound Shallowford Road past the intersection will narrow to one lane to make room.
  • Raised medians, a rebuilt signal and pedestrian improvements are included.
  • GDOT will pay eligible costs up to $1,875,508.80, from federal money Congress directed to the project in December 2022. The county’s share, from the 2022 SPLOST, is estimated at no more than $468,877.20.

Georgia Power utility relocation is still to come to the board. Construction dates have not been published; this page will add them when Cobb DOT posts them.

State roads and the interstates

GDOT publishes incidents, construction and traffic cameras for the interstates and state routes on the Georgia 511 map. Cobb also runs its own live traffic cameras.

How to find out about a closure first

What this means for you

  • Avoid Trickum Road between Jamerson and Shallowford roads until Oct. 20.
  • Allow extra time on Lower Roswell Road on weekday middays until late November.
  • Johnson Ferry at Shallowford is next. Work there will change how westbound drivers line up at the light.
